Round 17: Wal-Mart vs TJMaxx
This is Round 17 in our Worst Company in America contest, Wal-Mart vs TJMaxx.
Everyone has their own special reason for hating Wal-Mart. Forcing manufacturers to make shoddier versions of their products is pretty bad. Selling sandals that gave patrons feet chemical burns was pretty bad too. What's yours?
TJMaxx's lax wireless security lead to the theft millions upon millions of customer's debit and credit card numbers being stolen, the greatest bank robbery in the history of the freakin' world. More » -

Round 16: Mattel vs ATT
This is Round 16 in our Worst Company in America contest, Mattel vs AT&T.
Mattel profited off of selling millions of toys covered in lead paint, as well a toy with detachable, swallowable, magnet balls.AT&T has managed to sully the beautiful iPhone with their customer service missteps, let the government set up shop atop internet backbones so American citizens privacies could be invaded, and seems to almost go out of its way to make it possible for customers to sign up for federally mandated dry loop/naked DSL, and otherwise experiences many of the same foibles and hijinx you would expect with any other national telephonic giant. Round 15: Capital One vs Video Professor
This is Round 15 in our Worst Company in America contest, Capital One vs Video Professor.
Capital One's amusing credit card commercials aren't so funny after dealing with their appalling customer service staffed by thugs and gutter snipes.Video Professor hooks people on subscription plans, advertising that you can quit any time, then doesn't let you quit and keeps fraudulently billing you. Then when people posted complaints on infomercialscams.com, Video Professor tried to sue them out of existence and also sought the identities of the complaining consumers. More »

Round 14: eBay/Paypal vs COX
This is Round 14 in our Worst Company in America contest, eBay/Paypal vs COX cable.
eBay has become a hothive of international scams. Coupled with its faceless transaction processor Paypal, a number of our readers report having disputes unfairly judged against them, victims of scammers who know how to manipulate eBay/Paypal's myriad policies.
We don't receive many complaints about Cox but some of the people who nominated them took issue with paying $30 just to get 12 local channels, and another complained about his in-state long distance rate being doubled without explanation.

Round 12: Diebold Vs Pfizer
Pfizer hires stunt doubles to row for their not-a-physician (former) pitchman Dr. Robert Jarvik and this severely upsets Congress. They also don't want you to use cheaper generics. And produce potentially misleading and sketchy commercials about Celebrex. And they also make car sick medicine for dogs.
Diebold makes crappy voting machines that your grandmother could tamper with.

Round 9: Target Vs Best Buy
Best Buysells you boxes of bathroom tiles instead of products; lets Geek Squad steal your personal photos and pornography; sets their cellphones to record you showering while they're supposed to be fixing your computer, and tries to turn "bad" customers into good ones by pushing you to buy expensive unnecessary extended warranties. They had a "secret website" that looked like BestBuy.com but displayed different prices.Target sells really complicated napkin holders; won't talk to bloggers upset about their advertising; makes Diane Von Furstenburg mad, and charges less for three four-packs of Red Bull than it does for one twelve-pack. Their return policy is rather draconian. Target also displays Easter decorations on Dec 26th.

Round 8: Allstate vs Verizon
This is round 8 in our Worst Company in America 2008 contest, Allstate vs Verizon.
A Bloomberg magazine investigation found that starting in the 90's, AllState has been an industry pioneer in providing lower coverage, systematically lowballing and thwarting member's claims.
Verizon was found in one experiment to misquote rates 93% of the time. Verizon FiOS techs sometimes accidentally create tiny fires on people's houses. Sometimes their reps can't tell the difference between dollars and cents.
Two service providers. Only one can emerge victorious. Choose! Fight!

This is round 7 in our Worst Company in America 2008 contest, DeBeers vs 1-800 Flowers.
DeBeers: Controls over 70% of the world's diamond mining and has been accused of artificially constricting to diamond supply to inflate prices. Their advertising also teaches us that you're not a man unless you get your wife or lover the biggest rock you can.
1-800 Flowers: Readers have complained about receiving dead or the completely wrong flowers.

Round 5: Exxon vs Crocs
Exxon Valdez crash spilled 11 million gallons of oil into Alaskan waters. Recently Exxon petitioned to have the $2.5 billion in punitive damages reduced because it thought they were excessive. Exxon was also sued in lawsuit claiming their Indonesian subsidiary allowed their facilities to be used by the Indonesian government to torture 11 villagers.
Crocs makes really stupid looking shoes that have unfortunately become faddish. They can also get stuck in escalators leading to a very scary time as you try to pry your child from the ceaselessly churning stairs of death. Several injuries have been reported.

Round 4: Google Vs Sony
Google is like the elephant that never forgets... and it knows all of your personal information. Do you trust it not to be "evil?" Or is Google just a nice name for "Big Brother?" Let's not forget how they bowed to Chinese government demands that Chinese users be prevented from seeing certain search results, like information about the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.
Sony is a member of former Worst Company in America winner, the RIAA. When its not fake blogging, it can be found installing a rootkit on your computer and finding lots of ways to void your warranty.

Round 3: Ticketmaster vs Wachovia
This is round 3 in our Worst Company In America contest, Ticketmaster vs. Wachovia. Their crimes?
Ticketmaster's inability to fix their system allows scalpers to buy up all the tickets for a concert within minutes, depriving fans of their chance to get a ticket for a fair price. On top of that, Ticketmaster routinely obtains sole vendor relationships with venues, so that even the initial ticket prices are inflated.
For their part, Wachovia profited in millions by allowing scammers to use stolen identities to drain money from customers' accounts with unsigned checks, despite receiving thousands of warnings about the fraud.
Choose the greater of two evils.

Round 2: Facebook vs The American Arbitration Association
This is round 2 in our Worst Company In America contest, Facebook vs The American Arbitration Association. Their major crimes: The American Arbitration Association is the main supplier of kangaroo courts to companies who want to deprive consumers of most of their rights in the event of a legal dispute. Most contracts you sign with companies these days contain a mandatory arbitration clause. Facebook is a social networking site for yupsters that for a while was spying on all your purchases and selling the data to big big advertisers so they could sell you more ads. Which is the greater threat to our way of life? Choose!
